Are you against the banning of books in libraries? Last night on Jon Stewarts show they talked about the banning and about how much more money he'll make because of the libraries doing this! |

I'm not especially surprised that Mississippi libraries banned the book (though I hear they've reversed their decision). I just think it's sad that the only time (almost) that you hear libraries mentioned in a major newspaper or magazine is when they ban something.
I don't suppose I'm against libraries banning a book, though I can't think of many good reasons to do so. Most issues like the validity/appropriateness of content can be dealt with in the normal process of collection development. It seems that when a public library "makes a stand" by banning a particular book from their collection, it's usually for reasons--one person's morals; an administration that can't deal effectively with easily-offended patrons--that have nothing to do with their supposed mission to serve the public. |

I, too, own the book but haven't read it yet. :-) |
